2016 MWTTP Website Entry — News
“The training of the teacher who is to help life is something far more than the learning of ideas. It includes the training of character; it is a preparation of the spirit.”
– Maria Montessori
Montessori philosophy is known for its transformative qualities. Embracing it fully, offers one the opportunity to change the way s/he views the world. In service to this, MWTTP welcomed a new group of Elementary and Early Childhood level students on June 27, 2016. After spending the summer in an adult classroom experiencing the essence of Montessori theory and practice, students entered the practicum phase as interns in Montessori classrooms—an experience which will provide the true test of their understanding.
October finds our 2016-17 cohort immersed in the hustle bustle of Montessori classroom life. Throughout this early experience will come many “Aha!” moments, as concepts learned in the adult classroom are played out within reality. The remainder of the cycle will bring steadily growing understanding of the process, providing an opportunity for these fledgling teachers to become confident, competent Montessori guides in their own classrooms.
Montessori teacher education is indeed a preparation of the mind and spirit. To be successful in such an endeavor is to be able to take on the awesome responsibility of making the world a better place for children, and in doing so, to contribute to a brighter future for all!
